How to Keep Sheepskin Boots Looking New

Adorning the feet of everybody from celebrities to college students, sheepskin boots have become a wardrobe staple. Sheepskin boots have achieved such a level of versatility that you are liable to see them dressed up or down, and during the middle of winter as well as the height of summer. Due to their frequent exposure to the elements, time needs to be devoted to their care to keep them looking like new.

Instructions

Spray a water and stain repellent onto your sheepskin boots before you wear them for the first time. For the best results, follow the directions on the packaging carefully.

Hand-wash your sheepskin boots. Dilute a sheepskin shampoo and conditioner in a basin of cold water, according to the directions on its packaging. Soak your boots in the solution for several minutes, then sponge your boots with the solution. Rinse the boots thoroughly with cold water. Squeeze them to remove any excess moisture.

Allow your boots to air dry. Shove several wadded-up paper towels or newspapers inside of your boots after you have sprayed or hand-washed them. This will help them to retain their shape. Place your boots to dry away from heat or direct sunlight, both of which can cause damage to sheepskin.

Treat smaller stains on your boots by rubbing them with your fingers or a lightly damp cloth. For more stubborn or oily stains, Unusual Threads suggests dusting the area with powdered chalk.

Brush your boots with a suede brush to restore the sheepskin's nap.

How to Repair a Shoe Heel

Shoes become worn and damaged with everyday wear and tear, but because heels concentrate more friction and weight on a smaller surface area, you tend to get the damage there first. Especially if the pair of shoes you need fixed were an investment pair, it's worth a little DIY care before you toss them, whether you're facing a worn-out tip, or a wobbly or detached heel.

Instructions

Remove the metal pin that runs up the length of your heel with a screwdriver or pair of pliers. If it has broken in two, you may need to seek professional help from a shoe repair shop. Some inexpensive shoes don't have a pin in the heel--they may be entirely plastic. In that case, skip this step.

File the heel down so that it is level and even with its match.

Paint the base of the heel so that it matches with the rest of the heel. If the heel was leather and has worn off, be sure to cut off frayed edges so that everything lies flat against the heel.

Hammer on the new heel tip replacement in the same color and size as the former one. Make sure it is hammered all the way down so you can no longer see the metal pin.

Apply shoe glue to the top of the heel and press it firmly against the sole of the shoe.

Wipe off any glue that appears through the crack with a cloth.

Wait for the glue to dry and then hammer a few thin shoe nails around the heel into the sole for additional security. Be sure not to let nails go through to the interior of the shoe.

How to Wear Purple Shoes

Purple shoes are chic and trendy, but when you wear them with the wrong outfit or accessories, they can look more clownish than classy. Choosing the right accent colors, outfits and type of shoe will save you from the embarrassment of getting the purple shoe trend wrong. Almost anyone can pull off a purple shoe with the right attitude.

Choose the right shade of purple for your purple shoes. Purple shoes should hint at class with just a little trendiness. Stay away from nonsaturated colors like pastel purple or more immature shades of bright purple. Instead, chose saturated, royal purples that are closer to a neutral than a color. You'll get more use out of them, and they won't look too bright or silly.

Pick a shoe with a more serious shape so that your purple shoes are interesting in color but not crazy in shape. Purple shoes should enhance an outfit, so stick with a pointy-toed heel or a bejeweled purple flat. Leave the purple gladiator sandal or purple strappy heel on the shelf; they'll seem too girlish.

Wear a purple shoe with a neutral pant. Khaki pants, dark-wash jeans or gray slacks all suit purple shoes well. Because the pant lands so close to the shoe, you don't want it to compete with the shoe for attention. Leave the bottom half of your outfit neutral or decide on a different, more neutral shoe than a purple one.

Wear a multicolored top that has hints of shades of purple but isn't completely purple. You want to draw the similarities in color out from the top, not overwhelm your entire body with one color palette. You can also use a blazer or jacket to help tone down the matching purples in your shoes and shirt for a more neutral and chic look.

Add accessories that are in the same color family but don't match completely. Matching all of your accessories, including your handbag, to your shoes looks immature. Instead, choose a few bangles or a pair of earrings that echo the purple shoe without matching exactly. Choose a handbag that is a neutral color and not the same as the shoe; a camel-colored leather satchel can pull the look together without looking too planned.

How to Clean Crocs Shoes

Crocs are shoes made for men, women and children. They are so light because they only weigh 6 oz. These shoes also contain a no-slip bottom to prevent falls. Many nurses choose to wear Crocs because they mold to your feet and provide added comfort. This allows nurses to remain on their feet for 12-hour shifts. They have also become a fashionable shoe choice for people of all ages. Because the material is so different, owners may not be sure how they can clean their Crocs.

Instructions

Fill a bowl with some warm water and one drip of Ivory dish soap. You may use another brand of dish soap, but Ivory is the most gentle. Grab a wash cloth and carefully wipe down your Crocs. Wash the bottoms last because they will be the dirtiest. If you wash them first, you bowl of water will become filthy and need to be replaced. Dry your Crocs by laying them out to dry naturally.

Use Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, which is perfect for getting off those stains that just won't come off with soap and water. Rub the Magic Eraser over the stain until it disappears. This method works even on scuff marks.

Fill a bowl 75 percent full of warm water and then add 25 percent bleach. Use an old rag to apply the bleach water to your Crocs. This will not only get them clean, but it will also kill any bacteria. Since Crocs are worn in the summer without socks, this is important. Also, if there is any foot odor, the bleach will get rid of it.

Fill a bucket with warm water and 1/4 cup of baking soda. Set your Crocs in the bucket and come back for them 10 minutes later. If there is any dirt still remaining on the Crocs, you will be able to scrub it off with an old toothbrush. Let your Crocs air dry before wearing them again.

Place 1 cup of chlorine in a bucket and add 10 cups of water. Use this solution to wipe down your Crocs and get them clean again. You may want to designate an old rag to be used for this purpose. Air dry your Crocs.

Two tone shoes are back in fashion and make a great thrift store find. Unfortunately, shopping secondhand often means you have to settle for something that isn't quite right--then take matters into your own hands. This is where dyeing two tone suede shoes comes in, and you'll see that the options are nearly endless. Elvis wasn't the only one to have blue suede shoes.

Instructions

Set up your work space. Cover a flat surface with a protective sheet such as newspaper and have your clean cloth, dyes and applicators nearby.

Begin with the cleanest shoe possible. If your shoes are not new, clean them with a roughout cleaner with a clean cloth per manufacturer instructions and allow to dry.

Dip the applicator dauber into the dye well and gently apply color evenly in a sponging motion. Use your cloth to soak up and rub out any excess dye. Allow to dry.

If you are working with intermediary colors or want to punch up your original, repeat as necessary, allowing each coat to dry thoroughly.
