How to Clean Satin Shoes

Weddings are a timeless tradition, filled with beautiful memories. Along with those memories can come some frustrations. Have you ever had to rent your bride maids shoes or buy some, in hopes of returning them due to the cost and end up with a stain? Did you receive shoes for your wedding passed down and they just need to be cleaned before you take your steps down the aisle?
If you have ever made the grave error of trying to wash satin shoes, you know how horrible this can turn out. You really have to have this professionally done unless you know the 'Do It Yourself' way about it.
It's a lot easier than you think, and the same methods professionals use on designer satin shoes!

Instructions

First you are going to prep your shoe, make sure it is free of dust, or debris of any sort. Just wipe it off with a dry cloth.

Next you are going to place your Marseille soap in warm water and mix it together. The soap has olive oil in it, which will help lift the stain. Dip the white cloth into the water, and rub gently in a circular motion on the stain or soiled area. This will bring out the stain in minutes.

Let the shoes air dry, but not in the sun as this may fade the color. :)
Voila! You just cleaned your shoes, made them like new again and saved a ton on professional cleaning!

What to Wear With Red Boots

Red boots can either complement or harm the look of an outfit. Because red is a color that goes well with neutral colors such as beige, black, and white these colors are likely the logical choice for a handbag, dress, skirt, shirt, or pants. Pairing neutral colors with red boots will create an aesthetically pleasing ensemble where the neutral colors will complement the red color of the boots.

Start From Bottom to Top

When creating an outfit, its a good idea to start from the bottom and move up to the top, that way you can obtain a general idea of how the outfit should look. When using this method, the shoes are the first thing to start with and in this case the shoes happen to be red boots. Therefore, the next step would be to choose between a dress, skirt, or pants. Due to the flashy nature of red boots, it would likely be best to choose a neutral or matching colored skirt or dress. Dresses or skirts in red, black, white, beige, or brown would be a very pleasing fit due to the contrast between those colors and red. If choosing a skirt, one must choose a shirt that matches both the skirt and the boots. If the outfit you've chosen so far consists of a red skirt and red boots, its best not to pick a red shirt. All colors are best when presented in moderation. This has to do with the way that the brain interprets colors and symbols. When choosing a shirt for this outfit it's best to choose either black, white, beige, or gray because this will create a look that is generally pleasing to the eye.

Choosing a Matching Handbag

Choosing a handbag is essentially part of creating an outfit. A handbag that would go well with red boots would be red, white, black, beige, gray, or pink. The style of handbag depends heavily on the style of the skirt or dress and of the shirt. If the skirt has ruffles then of course a handbag with ruffles in one of the previously mentioned colors would match.

Carefully Add Accessories

Accessories are optional, of course, but should still be considered. For earrings, gold or silver hoops would be an excellent match with the red boots and possibly even red earrings, if there isn't a lot of red in the outfit already. Any set of earrings that are red, white, black, or pink would go well with the red boots as well. Necklaces should have one or more of the previously mentioned colors along with bracelets and hats. Remember that each color must be used in moderation.

Why Women Wear High Heels

Despite the warnings that high-heeled shoes can cause all kinds of health problems, the footwear's popularity remains constant.

History

In 1533, Catherine de Medici wore two-inch high heels to impress the court at her wedding to the Duke of Orleans, and European nobility soon copied her example. In the early days of high-heeled shoes, only the wealthy and aristocratic could afford to wear them.

The Roaring Twenties

Mass-produced shoes made their debut in the 1920s. Women's hemlines were higher, so their shoes' appearance was much more important to them. Heels taller than two inches were all the rage throughout the decade.

Power

Many vertically challenged women, England's "Bloody Mary" (Queen Mary I) included, have worn high heels for the sense of power they provide to the wearer.

Sex Appeal

The construction of high-heeled shoes forces changes in the posture of the wearer that result in a sexy, undulating walk. They cause the wearer's legs to appear longer and create a myriad of illusions about the feminine form that appeal to both sexes.

Glamour

The high heeled "shoe mania" exhibited by the character Carrie on "Sex and the City" is well known, and Hollywood celebrities and other examples of society's elite are often seen stepping from their limousines onto the red carpet in high-heeled shoes. For this reason, many women feel more glamorous when wearing a pair of high heels.

Warning

High heels force the ball of the foot to bear the entire burden of walking, rather than distributing the weight evenly. Heels higher than three inches put seven times the amount of pressure on it. Foot deformities, knee and back pain, as well as sprained ankles can all result from wearing high heels.

DIY Thermal Boots

When gearing up for winter, you think long johns, long sleeves and thick coats. Rarely do your feet get much attention until you've experience the biting cold that can penetrate even the toughest winter boots and chill you to the bone. It's extremely important to insulate your winter boots with thermal accessories because without warm, dry feet no amount of layering will keep your body warm.

Instructions

Purchase a pair of rubber-soled winter boots that are one size too big for you. If possible, get ones without felt lining that are made of leather. Since you'll be saving money by doing the thermal lining yourself, invest in a sturdy pair of boots that will last several years.

Give your boots a thick layer of leather protective spray in a well-ventilated area and let dry overnight. This makes the leather waterproof.

Insert the wool soles in your boots. They should come with adhesive strips on the back, you just have to peel off the plastic strips. Press the soles firmly into the bottom of the boot, making sure that every side is glued down.

Place your hand inside the Thinsulate liner and guide it into the boot over the wool sole. Use your hand to spread out the liner evenly inside the boot, making sure the wool sole stays in place.

Take out the Thinsulate liners after prolonged use. Let them air dry and reuse the next day. Spray them with fabric cleaner every few days to prevent bacterial growth.

Wearing white shoes in the spring and summer really has no rules. If you feel your feet and legs are too pale to don white shoes, hit yourself with a gradual self-tanner to gain color. Wedges are easy to wear in white, while a pair of white heels or flats are more bold and look great when channeling a mod look. Keep hair and makeup simple to avoid looking like you're wearing a costume.

Cold Weather

Wearing white shoes in cold weather is hard, but it can be done. Instead of stark white, opt for shades of ivory, eggshell and cream, which look fantastic with cool and warm tones in your winter wardrobe. Suede or textured fabrics give white winter shoes a cozy feel.

Match Your Handbag
