How to wear platform shoes

Platform shoes didn't die out with the 1970s. While not always the "in" shoe, platforms are perfect for those who want to add inches while still being able to walk comfortably. Paired with the right outfit, you can look incredibly modern and stylish in these shoes.

Instructions

Choose platform shoes to wear. The wedge heel of the shoe can vary from one inch to several inches high.

Picking a neutral color like black, brown or tan will allow you to wear the platform shoes with many different outfits.

Slip into your platform shoes. If you wear slacks with your platforms, jeans work best, especially those with slight flaring at the bottom. Skinny leg pants don't go well with platform shoes. With dresses, platform shoes look good with shorter skirt lengths.

Stand up and walk around to make sure you can do so comfortably. Even the highest platforms are easier to walk in than stiletto heels because your weight is more evenly distributed across the wedge.

Wear whatever you like. Just because these shoes were popular in the 1970s doesn't mean you have to wear clothes from that era. The style of shoe will determine your outfit.

Be careful, especially if your heels are several inches high. You won't have to totter as you would in stilettos, but platform shoes aren't made for running, either.

Running is a high impact exercise that can lead to injuries if your shoes do not fit properly or if they do not offer the proper support. All runners need shoes with at least some side support. Runners that overpronate, which means that they have a tendency to roll the foot inwards or outwards while running, will need to pay special attention to shoes that provide side support.

One of the key components of hiking boots is that they provide side support. Hikers navigate rugged terrain and side support is essential. Hiking boots keep the feet stable and in place, even as you are trekking over rocks and uneven ground. The majority of hiking boots are the high top style of boots, but there are low top options as well.

Cross-trainers provide both lateral support, as well as front-to-back support. This is due to the fact that they are often worn by people that regularly practice aerobics or that participate in activities such as basketball or tennis. Cross-trainers are a great option for most people due to the comprehensive side support, as well as the front-to-back support.

Shoes that are designated for walking also provide excellent side support. While walking is generally not a high-impact activity, side support is needed to withstand various outdoor or indoor conditions. Also, proper cushioning and support will keep your feet, ankles, and knees healthy, no matter how much or how often you walk.

How to Make Leather Shoes

Making things by hand seems to add to their value, causing you to appreciate the product more and giving you a certain feeling of pride and confidence. Additionally, handmade clothing items can be more budget-friendly than comparable store-bought products. Certainly, leather shoes fall into this category. With an easy pattern and a few leather scraps, you can create your own unique and useful footwear.

Instructions

Measure one foot, and use chalk to trace the correct size pattern pieces onto the leather. Cut out the pattern pieces.

Use the hole punch or scissors to punch two holes in each upper part of the pattern. The elastic will fit here.

Sew one side of each casing piece in place. Insert the elastic and sew the other side shut.

Decorate the top pieces of the shoe, if you desire. Working with the shoe inside out, sew the top piece to the sole, carefully aligning them.

Right sides together, sew the backs onto the soles, overlapping the top piece a little bit.

Before turning the shoes right-side-out, gently guide the ends of the elastic through the two holes on the front piece. Adjust for the desired tightness and sew in place.

Turn the shoe right-side out.

For people with feet that are different sizes, buying affordable, comfortable and stylish shoes can be a challenge. Often people must buy two pairs of shoes in different sizes to have one pair that fits. Some retailers and single shoe organizations offer more affordable ways to buy single shoes and pairs of different-sized shoes.

Most people have feet that are different sizes. If the discrepancy is one-half to one whole size, individuals can simply purchase shoes that fit the larger foot. A difference of more than one whole size usually requires purchasing shoes in different sizes.

Some shoe retailers offer single shoe service: customers may purchase a single shoe in two different sizes to make a pair. There is often a surcharge for this service, but the cost is less than buying two pairs of shoes.

The National Odd Shoe Exchange is a nonprofit organization that enables people who need shoes of different sizes to trade unused single shoes for single shoes in the size they need. Shoes are provided free to registered users. The organization is funded by monetary and in-kind donations.

Another single shoe service, OddShoeFinder, matches buyers and sellers of single shoes. Sellers post a description and photo or link for their shoes and buyers search for shoes by size or style. Purchases are transacted individually between the seller and buyer. The service is free.

Whoever invented the dress flat invented a wide world of fashion possibilities, as this article will explore. Women everywhere can feel the liberation of fashion expression with these simple ideas that will carry them year-round.

A plaid dressy flat can add dimension to any winter work outfit.

On a cold winter day when she is hustling and bustling about her business, sometimes a woman doesn't want to be slowed down by high heels. But fortunately for her, she doesn't have to sacrifice her sense of fashion for being a woman on the go. Flat shoes have evolved into a fashionably stylish staple for any woman's closet because they are extremely versatile and cater to every woman's taste.

When wearing dressy flats in the winter, a variation in style and shape can change an outfit from business casual to executive meeting, depending on what look you want to accomplish. For more of a business casual look, a round-toe flat is more comfortable and relaxed on the feet but still maintains a professional air when worn with slacks. When paired with wool slacks or any other heavy-material pants to combat the winter weather, a dress flat with a texture such as suede or a pattern such as plaid adds a dimension to the look that is fashionable but not overstated.

For more of a business look such as with a suit, a pointy toe flat gives the illusion of a high heel with the comfort of a flat.

If you want to wear a skirt to work, a dressy flat still works in the winter even if your skirt exposes a little leg. Just pair it with solid-color tights to keep your legs warm and to keep yourself work-appropriate while adding some fashion to your ensemble. For example, if you were to pair a wine-colored sweater or top with a deep gray skirt, either a wine, gray or even black colored tights would go well with either solid color flats or plaid flats.

Peep-toe flats work wonders in the warmer months.

As the weather warms up and your work wardrobe starts to evolve, the trusty dressy flat evolves right along with it in style, shape and color. When it's not quite warm enough for sandals but you want to take advantage of the sunshine, a nice peep-toe dressy flat is a sure way to go.

The best part about utilizing a dressy flat in a springtime wardrobe is the great number of possible looks a woman can choose. If you get bored with the regular slacks with a cute flat, you can trade in your full-length pants for well-fit Bermuda shorts with a peep-toe flat in a bright color and accessorize with bright-colored necklaces and bracelets.

Dresses and skirts go perfectly with round-toe dressy flats, but more so with peep-toes or sling backs. They also work well with Mary Janes and baby-doll-style flats, but stay away from pointy-toe flats unless you are wearing them with a skirt suit or a fancy/professional dress.

It's a touchy subject for the more traditional and conservative professional, but those who have no problem with wearing sandals to work will find themselves in a world of options and styles. Don't just limit the sandal to dresses and skirts, although they work perfectly together for work or for any function that requires a little more time getting dressed. In the workplace, cute sandals are now classy and embellished enough to go well with slacks and more business-wear skirts.

Try to steer more toward the sandals with some sort of jewel or design to make them less casual. Also, metallic-colored sandals are considerably more work appropriate than bohemian-style sandals.
