Description of EMU Boots

EMU boots are sheepskin insulated footwear created in Australia in the early 1990s. Since its inception, EMU has expanded their line to include purses, sandals and accessories. However, their biggest seller is still the original, surfwear-inspired boot. Often imitated, the EMU boot is a unique shoe that has a distinctive look and hard-wearing body. EMU boots are distributed internationally through a wide variety of sellers and venues.

EMU boots started their climb to prominence in the United States in 1994. The ugg style of boot is a unique one. The boots are usually soft in form, with a flat rubber sole measuring a bit less than a half inch in thickness. The height of the upper ranges from very low to knee height and usually has no zipper. Colors vary; while there are special edition shades like pink or purple, the usual EMU boot comes in camel brown.

Each EMU boot has a small rectangular EMU brand label on the back of the heel. There is also a stitched EMU brand tag at the top attached to the piped border. All seams are reinforced with extra stitching and have piping along the edges to reduce wear.

EMU boots come in a full range of sizes for men, women and children. There are booties for babies, as well as shoes suitable for a toddler's developing feet. The boots run wide, but have enough lambswool stuffing to be comfortable for narrow feet. There are models with tie-up sides that will accommodate wide calves. EMUs are wide at the top, however, and may be best suited to pants with a narrow bottom that can be tucked in.

EMUs are a popular target for knock-offs. However, genuine EMU boots display plenty of branding that sets them apart from imitators. Besides the distinctive stitching and branding seals on the back, the name "EMU" also appears on the twill tape allow the top of the boot. The boots should also arrive in an EMU box with literature about care and maintenance. Genuine EMU boots are always crafted from leather and should be supple to the touch, not stiff or plasticine in nature.

As far as trends go, the ugg boots is a style that many in the fashion industry knock. However, these boots have proven to be a wide favorite in both cold and hot climates. The biggest selling point is comfort and ease of wear, and the boots seem to satisfy those requirements for many. While the cost may be steep, EMU boots are built well and manufactured with the environment in mind. With a loyal following among celebrities and the young, ugg-style EMU boots have a long shelf life.
