How to Personalize Shoes

Maybe you want to express your style where someone would least expect it. Perhaps you like to create artwork on an unusual canvas. Whatever the reason, use craft techniques and embellishments to personalize shoes and showcase your artistic talent and fashion flair whenever you step out of the house.

Instructions

Add a personal symbol to the toe or heel. Use rubber stamps and ink to add a simple insignia, an inspirational word or your initials.

Use pens to write your signature or inscribe your catch phrase along the side of the shoes. Doodle your significant other's initials, your pet's name or that of your favorite athletic team, city or band.

Apply small photos to leather or vinyl shoes with decoupage medium. Ensure the photos are small enough to sit flat on a portion of the shoe so the image doesn't buckle.

Demonstrate your artistic flair by painting a mini-masterpiece on the toe or along one side. Consult an employee at a crafts store to find the specific paint to suit the material of your shoe. Use fabric paint when decorating canvas sneakers, for example.

Create a new pattern to suit your style. Use thin strips of painter's tape to create an abstract design, paint each section different color, then remove the tape. Or you can place the shoe over scrap paper and use toothbrushes to spatter a variety of colors onto the surface.

Personalize with your favorite colors. Swap white sneaker laces for lengths of string in vibrant shades and dangle charms or acrylic shapes from the loops. Hot glue strips of coordinating ribbon or tie knots of fabric to flip flop or sandal straps. Use fabric dyes to re-color or tie-dye canvas shoes.
