How to Hand Decorate Flip Flops ~ Women Shoes Advisory

Flip-flops are as much a part of summer as surf, sand and sun. Almost every woman owns at least one pair. Some would own more if they could afford the designer style shoes that they covet. Unfortunately, most are well out of the financial reach of the average American woman. The good news is that it is possible to hand decorate a plain pair of flip-flops to achieve a designer look without the cost.

Instructions

Decide what type of embellishment will be used. There are a lot of possibilities including flowers, jewels, sequins, rhinestones, pearls, beading, seashells, charms, decorative buttons and much more.

Decide on the type and style of flip flops to be used. Flip flops come in the standard rubber type but there are also those that come in a variety of fabrics, some of which include a band of material across the top of the foot.

Sketch out the design to be used on the shoes. Flip flops can be embellished only at the toe, around the upper part of the foot, or along the side.

Purchase the supplies needed to complete the project.

Glue or sew ribbon or silk flowers and leaves onto the flip flops. Cluster the embellishment around the toe, across the top of the foot and/or along the side as planned in the draft sketch.

Glue or sew individual or strings of sequins, rhinestones and/or beading onto each shoe as planned in the draft sketch.

Set faux jewels onto the flip flop. This can be done a couple of different ways. They can be glued on with permanent glue that is appropriate to the shoe material or they can be set into the shoe with the help of a device that sets metal-based jewels.

Clip on shoe clips or old clip earrings onto the flip-flops for a temporary decoration that can be changed out as desired.

Hand paint a design onto the flip flops using paints that are appropriate to its material or simply use specialized paints such as glitter, pearlized, or puff style to "squiggle" designs onto the shoe.

Glue or sew seashells, charms, or decorative buttons onto the flip-flops according to the draft sketch.
