How to Protect Sheepskin Boots ~ Women Shoes Advisory

Most sheepskin boots have a tanned outer side with an attached wool inside and synthetically designed sole. The inner wool fibers can keep your feet at a comfortable body temperature, even when it is very cold outside. Despite their warmth, sheepskin boots cannot handle the harsh elements. Purchase a water and stain repellent when you purchase your sheepskin boots. Water and stain repellents, designed especially for use on sheepskin and suede are usually sold online or in shoe stores.

Apply the water and stain repellent to the sheepskin boots before you wear them. Most water and stain repellents come in a bottle, which releases a clear coating when sprayed. Follow the manufacturer's instructions before applying the water and stain repellent.

Allow the sheepskin boots to dry for the recommended amount of time, which is usually about 24 hours. During this time, keep the sheepskin boots out of direct sunlight and away from high heat. A cool, dry area should suffice as the chemical sets.

Perform spot cleanings on the sheepskin boots by dampening the boot evenly with a sponge and sheepskin shampoo and massaging out the stain. Wet a soft cloth, and rub it gently over the sheepskin boot to remove the shampoo. Allow the boots to dry. Apply a new coat of water and stain repellent afterward.

Raise the nap on your sheepskin boots, and keep them looking as good as new by brushing them with a suede brush. Run the suede brush in the same direction at all times, continuing until you have brushed the entire boot.
