How to Replace a Worn Toe Area on Pumps and Heels

How to Replace a Worn Toe Area on Pumps and Heels

Many women have a pair of heels---or several---that they simply adore. These fabulous heels often don't last too long because they are worn so frequently. When most shoes are worn too much, they tend to wear in the toe and the heel. The fabric at the toe can fade and the heel tip can break right off. If you're going out for the evening and forgot to get your shoes fixed, there is a quick and simple way to repair the worn shoes so they can be worn a little while longer.

Instructions

    1

Remove the old and/or broken heel tip. Grab the heel tip with a pair of pliers and pull heel tip from the bottom of the shoe.

    2

Replace the heel tip with a new one. Place the peg of the new tip into the hole in the bottom of the heel. Use a hammer to ensure the tip is properly inserted into the heel. You find heel tips online, on eBay or at a local shoe cobbler store.

Keep in mind that not all heel tips are perfect circles, some are U-shaped, oval or rectangular. Keep your shoes with you---or the old tips---to ensure you purchase the correct ones.

    3

Cover any markings, scratches or worn areas with marker paint. Marker paint---similar to Sharpies---can be purchased in almost any color and even finishes like matte or satin. Lightly, fill in the worn/damaged areas with the appropriate colored marker paint.

If you can not find marker paint at your local home improvement or hardware store, you can use a permanent marker.

    4

Polish your shoes to blend the marker in and to make your shoes look like new. Apply the black or brown polish to your shoes in a circular motion using a lint-free cloth. Allow the polish to absorb into the shoes for a few minutes.

    5

Buff the shoes to a shine using a different lint-free cloth.
