How to Make Your Own Pair of Shoes

Not interested in purchasing a pair of pre-designed shoes from you local mall? Many shoe companies allow you to design your own footwear online. You can choose from an array of colors, pre-set designs and text options to complete your personal design. From skate shoes to simple sneakers, such as Keds, you can choose a type of footwear and easily create a personalized version to reflect your individuality.

Instructions

Create an online Keds account. After you create an account, click the "Design Your Own" tab.

Choose your gender and age by clicking on the "Women," "Men" or "Kids" tab. After you choose your gender, select a shoe style with your mouse---Lace Up, Slip On or Mini Slip On. Next, select a shoe size.

Select the shoe you want to start designing by selecting one of the options on the "Select a Part" pane (for example, outside quarter, inside quarter, tongue, laces, etc.).

Select a color, pattern or image from the toolbar. You can also upload personal digital images from your computer and apply them to your shoe design. Click the "Image" tab, click the "Upload" button, locate your preferred image, and click "OK." When you're finished designing your shoe, click the "Apply" button.

Click the "Buy" button when you're completely satisfied with your shoe design. Next, click the "Proceed to Checkout" button.

Review your billing and shipping information. Enter your credit card information and complete your order.

Go to the official Etnies website and click the "Custom Shoes" link at the bottom of the page.

Choose your preferred shoe style and gender by clicking on one of the listed shoe icons (for example, Mens Fader, Girls RSS, Kids Fader, etc.).

Decide on the shoe area you want to start designing and check the box next to the specific area (side panel, toe cap, laces, eyelets, etc.). Once you click an option, a color toolbar will appear. Select the color or pattern you want to apply to that specific area. Each time you experiment with different colors and patterns, a preview of your shoe will appear on the left side of the website screen.

Continue adding color or pattern to each section of the shoe.

Click on the "Name Your Shoes" tab when you're finished designing your shoe. Next, select your shoe size from the "Size" drop-down menu, as well as the quantity of shoes you want to order.

Click on the "Buy Your Shoes" tab. Next, click "Add to Cart" and review your shipping information.

Choose your method of payment---Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express or PayPal. Enter your credit card and billing information.

Click the "Review Order" button and confirm your purchase. Your order will be shipped within six to eight weeks.

Create a free Vans account, select the "Shop" link on the main website page, and click on the "Custom Shoes" link.

Select one of the three available shoe models---Era, Slip-On or Old Skool.

Select your gender by clicking on the "Men," "Women" or "Boys" option. Next, select your preferred shoe size. When you're finished selecting your gender and shoe size, click the "Next" button.

Select the color foundation for your shoe by clicking the "White" or "Black" option.

Choose the section of the shoe you want to begin designing (quarter, heel, toe, laces, tongue, etc.) by clicking on the designated link for that specific area. Add a color or pattern to the specific shoe area by clicking on one of the available colors. Experiment with different colors and patterns by clicking on each of the options in the color and design pane. Each time you click on one of the colors or pre-made patterns, a preview of your design will appear on the right-hand side of the website screen. Continue designing your shoe by adding colors and patterns to each shoe section.

Click the "Add to Cart" button when you're satisfied with your design.

Enter your billing and shipping information, including your name, address and phone number. Click the "Next" button.

Review your order and enter your credit card information. When you're finished entering your personal information, click the "Complete Order" button. Your new shoes will be created and sent within five to seven weeks.
