B.F. Goodrich the tire manufacturer decided to market a pair of rubber boots he called "galoshes" in the early 1900's according to Idea Finder.
Origin of Rubber Boots
Scientific American's "Origin of Rubber Boots," found that the Amazonian Indians were making rubber boots long before Goodrich created the galoshes. They tap the sap of the rubber tree and boiled it to cover and protect their feet.
British History
