How to Embellish Western Boots

Wearing embellished western boots is a bold way to make a style statement. Whether you belt them or fringe them, embellishing your boots at home is a fun and simple crafts project that can bring new life to an old pair of shoes.

Instructions

Look for leather or suede fringe remnants at your local fabric or fiber store, or trim the fringe off of an old leather jacket, making sure to leave some excess leather beneath the fringe for securing it to your boots.

Make sure the boot and the fringe is clean, dry and free of debris. Align the top of the fringe with the top of your boot, and wrap the fringe around the boot shaft. Secure with tape to temporarily keep the fringe in place.

Use a heavy duty staple gun or leather glue to adhere the fringe to the boot, applying a dab of glue or a staple every 1 inch or so around the perimeter of the boot shaft. Make sure you adhere only the top part of the fringe, so that the fringe dangles beneath the top of the boot shaft and moves as the wearer moves.

Gather an assortment of leather belts in different colors, widths and designs. Select a few belts according to your preferred color scheme or style.

Wrap a belt around the boot, beginning behind the heel and bringing the belt around to the front.

Cross the belt over itself in the front and wrap it around the back of the boot. Cross it again and wrap it around once more to the front of the boot, and secure the belt with the buckle.

Repeat Steps 2 and 3 with as many belts as you like. Play with different patterns and wrapping styles to achieve the look you want.
