How to Treat Designer Leather Boots

After paying a months salary for your new designer leather boots, you will want to keep them looking new for as long as possible. The greatest danger to leather is moisture, so you must waterproof your boots as soon as you get them. In addition, you must take great care when wearing them and storing them to prevent scuffing and to preserve their shape. Protecting your investment will ensure your designer leather boots last for years instead of a few seasons.

Instructions

Cover a work surface with newspapers and set your new boots on the newspaper.

Hold the waterproofing spray at least 6 inches away from the boot and spray in long, quick even strokes. Wipe up any drips immediately and do not saturate the boot.

Allow the waterproofing spray to dry for the manufacturers recommended amount of time before wearing.

Reapply the waterproofing spray every four to six weeks or as recommended by the manufacturer. If you wear your boots infrequently, you may be able to go longer.

Wrap each boot carefully in tissue paper or place them in separate plastic bags to avoid scuffing during storage.

Place the boots in their original box when you are not wearing them.

Avoid wearing suede boots when it rains or snows. Even with waterproofing, suede is extremely prone to staining.

Dry you leather boots immediately if they do get wet. Blot away any surface water and stuff the boots with towels or newspaper so they will retain their shape as they dry.

Dust leather boots with a soft, clean, dry cloth after each time you wear them. Accumulated dirt and grit will act like sandpaper, scuffing and wearing away the leather. Use a light touch to avoid grinding particles into the leather.

Polish boots as needed. Apply a thin coat of polish to the leather and buff to a shine once dry.
