How to clean Hunter boots

Hunter boots include a full line of waterproof footwear. The British manufacturer produces boots made out of, or trimmed with, leather and fabric as well as its signature rubber Wellington boots and other rubber boot and shoe styles. Since Hunter boots are meant to be worn in rain and even snow, they often get dirty and need to be cleaned and maintained. Cleaning your rubber Hunter boots is easy, and you clean other Hunter boot materials and trim as you would clean regular shoes made out of these materials.

Instructions

Mix a mild detergent with water, and apply the solution to your boots using a sponge or cloth.

Wipe wet boots with a clean, soft cloth and allow them to dry. Do not store damp boots.

Buff gloss finish rubber boots with a soft, dry cloth to restore the glossy finish if you notice that the finish is fading.

Treat the boots as desired with a Hunter rubber boot care product, that is available from your Hunter boot dealer. Follow the instructions on the package.

Wipe your wet Hunter leather boots and allow them to dry for 48 hours, away from artificial heat or direct sunlight. Use saddle soap with cold water according to the manufacturer's instructions to remove any stubborn stains or dirt before you let them dry.

Spot clean any fabric trim or material with mild soap and water.

Touch up any scuff marks on box, grained or calf leather boots or trim with shoe polish that matches the color of the boot or trim and buff the restored areas with a leather cleaning and polishing cream.

Treat the entire leather surface with a leather conditioner and polish.

Wipe suede or nubuck Hunter boots or boot trim with a damp cloth to remove surface dirt. Remove surface stains with a nubuck or suede bar.

Rub any scuffs you find on oiled or waxy leather boots with your fingers. Remove any dirt or stains with a damp cloth. Treat with an oiled leather restoring product according to the package directions.

Wipe any stains off patent leather surfaces gently with a clean, dry cloth.

Remove scratches from pull-up leather trim by rubbing the underside of the surface with your fingertips until they are no longer visible. Buff the surfaces with a leather cleaning and protecting cream.

Wipe tumbled leather surfaces with a damp cloth. Apply a leather cleaning and protective cream to protect and restore the appearance of the tumbled leather.

Remove light stains from shearling (sheep wool) trim using a damp cloth. Remove heavier stains or dirt a sponge dipped in cold or warm water mixed with wool wash detergent according to label instructions. Blot excess water with a clean paper towel and allow to dry away from sun and artificial heat. Brush the shearling after it dries with a soft suede brush to restore the nap.
