When sandals look good, they look really, really, good and when they look bad, they look horrid--or at least your feet do. Even if you're not born with model feet you can look good in sandals and maximize your summer style potential.

Evaluate your feet with a discerning eye. Aside from the condition of the skin, you may find flaws not to your liking. Improve what you can and use the rest of the assessment to determine which sandal style will look best on you. (See Step 6)
2Work on the condition of your skin and toenails.Optimally begin foot care well before sandal season is here. You may opt for a pedicure but note that the procedure can only do so much for long-neglected or cracked skin. It may, however, reduce restoration time to get your feet into sandal condition.
3Exfoliate rough spots with a loofah or stiff brush for a few seconds every time you bathe or shower. The results are cumulative. Calloused skin requires more work, but this too should be done in increments to avoid skin irritation. Always dry your feet thoroughly to keep foot odor at bay and, using the towel, gently push cuticles back as needed.
4Trim your toenails but leave a little length to minimize skin cracks from clipping too close to the skin, which may also harbor fungus. If you are prone to ingrown toenails, cut them straight across and leave nails a bit longer. Clean under your toenails regularly and use a foot bath if needed. Healthy toenails are essential in sandal season.
5Moisturize your feet with a good foot cream according to your need for deep conditioning. Newer products on the market contain alpha hydroxy to promote healing of dry cracked skin.
6Polish your toenails with colors that complement your skin and clothing. Most women benefit from at least a little color on their toes. While it is okay to wear any color you like, colors like candy apple red or black do not flatter everyone. If needed, put a base coat on problem nails or consider French manicure-style toenail tips.
7Apply tanning lotion to your feet and legs if you are quite pale and dissatisfied with your appearance in sandals. Even a shade or two darker makes a distinctive cosmetic difference.
8Look good in sandals by ensuring proper fit and avoid accurating the negative. If your feet are on the plump side, avoid tight straps and thin, stringy or elastic styles. Narrow feet will require narrow sandals with limited stretch. Ladies with too many visible arteries look better when the top of the foot is mostly covered. Avoid thong sandal styles if you are not thrilled with your toes. And, most importantly, look for comfort to look your best in sandals and throughout the day.
