KangaROOS, dubbed "the original shoes with pockets," is a global athletic shoe and apparel brand that manufactures and sells products in over 60 countries.
History
KangaROOS shoes were invented in 1979 by Robert Gamm, an avid jogging enthusiast. Gamm was looking for a place to keep his change and keys while running and was inspired to create the first pocketed shoe.
Product Line
KangaROOS now makes men's and women's shoes with pockets for running, basketball and cross training. KangaROOS' apparel line consists mostly of cotton T-shirts, sweatshirts and polo shirts with the KangaROOS logo.
Rise to Popularity
The sheer conventionality of the new shoe with pockets led to much of KangaROOS' popularity. Other milestones like Bill Rodgers beating the Boston marathon course record while wearing a pair of KangaROOS and endorsements from Walter Payton contributed to the rise of Kangaroo popularity during the 1980s.
