History of Gogo Boots ~ Women Shoes Advisory

Gogo boots were the fashion rebellion of the mid-sixties. This was a revolutionary trend that changed the face of women's fashion. Boots became part of fashion, rather than just a necessity for inclement weather. Gogo boots introduced a progressive women's fashion trend that became incredibly popular, and never really went out of style.

The word gogo was short for "all the rage," when the boot took off in popularity in the early 1960s, and in 1965, the term gogo dancer came into vogue.

Gogo boots can really come in a wide variety of styles. The height of the boots can either be calf length, shin length or all the way up to the knee. They can come in a wide spectrum of styles from no zipper to side zipper, and from rounded toe to extremely pointed toe. The fabric can be anything from leather to vinyl, and the heel can be up to 4 inches, or non-existent. Gogo boots can be worn with skirts, dresses and pants alike.

Andr Courrges is said to be the first to feature the gogo boot in his collection in 1964. The boot was a part of his "Moon Girl" collection. The first gogo boot was actually clear plastic, and it was calf length.

While gogo boots are sometimes called kinky boots, they are not one and the same. Kinky boots usually go all the way up to the knee, and they are very pointed. The heel is also usually at least 3 inches high. These boots were very fashionable in England in the 70s.

The singer Nancy Sinatra wrote a song called "These Boots are Made for Walkin'" that brought attention to the style, and other designers like Yves St. Laurent also designed around the trend in the early 70s.
