How to Make Shoes From Carpet ~ Women Shoes Advisory

Whether you are committed to wearing only eco-friendly products, are trying to avoid unnecessary spending or need to whip up a pile of shoes for a school play, learning how to make your own shoes from carpet remnants is a way to save money and the environment. With only a handful of materials, you can build a simple pair of sandals from durable carpet pieces that are suitable for wearing in casual situations.

Instructions

Place the carpet remnants on the floor, fiber side down.

Stand on the carpet and trace the outline of each of your feet on the carpet remnant.

Follow the outline of each foot with a pencil, adding 1/2 inch all the way around. This will ensure that the sole of the shoe is not too small once you put it on. For children whose feet are still growing, allow for 3/4 or 1 inch extra all around.

Measure a strip 2 inches wide from the rest of the remaining fabric. The length of the fabric depends on the size of your feet. Lay the strip over the top of your foot as it rests on the floor and make a tick mark with your pencil on either side of your foot to mark the length you will need to cut. Add 2 inches to that measurement and cut off the appropriate length. You need the extra length to have enough carpet fabric to sew this piece into place.

Cut out the sole portion of the shoe, which you measured earlier.

Place the sole portion of the carpet fiber side down, and place your foot on top. Place the top strip over your foot to double check and ensure proper fit.

Sew the edges of the long carpet strip to the underside of the sole portion of the shoe. Use your machine's lock stitch setting, which is the most durable machine stitch, to ensure the durability of the shoe.
