How to Remove Leather Sandal Smell and Odor

How to Remove Leather Sandal Smell and Odor

Natural leather sandals can be the most comfortable casual foot wear you own. You might even wear them every day, all day -- except for the bad sandal smell and odor that quickly build up. A few tips might help to eliminate bad sandal smell. Another solution is to buy an extra pair of sandals

Instructions

    1

Sandal odor is caused by sweat moisture and a buildup of odor-causing bacteria. This can happen very quickly. Use baking soda or baby powder to help absorb extra moisture. You can even try antiperspirant sprays on your feet. Wash your feet before wearing leather sandals. An antibacterial soap will help eliminate the sandal smell.

    2

Wash your sandals occasionally with a bit of antibacterial soap and enough water to help apply it. Do not want to soak the sandals. Leather does not wear well if wet too much and too often. Leave in the sun to dry. The sun kills bacteria very effectively. Sun will also dry your leather, so don't overdo it.

    3

Other antibacterial agents also can work to remove sandal foot odor. A mild vinegar and water solution, or even disinfectant spray, will kill bacteria that cause sandals to smell bad.

    4

Try not to wear the same pair of sandals every day. Rotate pairs or wear other footwear to help reduce bacteria buildup and excessive odor. If you have a pair you love -- say your comfortable hiking sandals -- consider buying a duplicate pair.
