How to Polish New Boots

If you want to keep your new leather boots looking new, you need to polish them. New boots are vulnerable to scuffs, drying, fading and cracking. Polishing your boots once a week or so will keep the leather soft and durable. Polishing helps break new boots in more quickly because it helps soften the leather.

Instructions

Brush surface dirt and debris from your boots with a shoe brush. A horsehair brush has soft but durable bristles; these are the brushes used by professional shoe shiners.

Wipe dirt and dust from boots with a clean, dry cloth. Be sure the boots are completely dry.

Apply shoe cream or polish to your boots with a separate dry, clean cloth. Use a product that matches the color of your boots.

Rub cream onto the entire surface of the boots, being sure to not miss any spots. Set aside and allow the shoes to absorb the cream. Let fully dry.

Buff your boots with a clean natural-bristle shoe brush. Use one brush for cleaning and a different brush for polishing. With firm, quick movements, run the brush back and forth over the boots. Polish until the boots look shiny.
