How to Find Fashionable Shoes for Women With Big Feet

For women with big feet, it was once nearly impossible to find adorable shoes that fit correctly. Often you'd have to resort to stuffing your foot into a size too small, choose ugly styles or buy men's shoes. Obviously, men's shoes don't include the heels, wedges or strappy sandals women like. Eventually, shoe companies realized not all women's feet stopped growing at a size 10 and began making fashionable shoes available for women with big feet.

How and Where to Look

It's frustrating to go shoe shopping with friends and not find your size available because you have big feet. If you ask store associates before you wander the racks, they'll tell you if they carry shoes in your size and which ones. Many retail and online stores carry inexpensive, yet fashionable women's shoes in large sizes. Online stores have shoes up to size 20, while some stop at size 11 or 12. If you have narrow or wide feet, it may be more challenging to find larger sizes, but not impossible.

Accurate Measuring

The most important part of buying shoes is to make sure they fit correctly. To ensure the best fit, you should start by measuring your foot in the Brannock Foot-Measuring device. A sales associate knows how to use this measuring tool if it seems confusing or wildly inaccurate. This tool indicates your shoe size and width. Since many shoe manufacturers don't follow Brannock sizing, you'll still need to try your shoes on to confirm fit and comfort.

If you've already measured your feet previously, or know what size and width feel comfortable on your foot, shopping online for large-sized shoes will provide a wide selection of styles. Online retailers, such as 6pm.com, offer up to size 20 while barefoottess.com provides sizes up to 15. Online stores with stylish shoes make it easy to quickly weed out sizes that don't fit your feet. Brick and Mortar Stores

Lovers of designer shoes should go to Nordstrom and Bloomingdales for up-to-the-moment fashionable larger sizes. Budget conscious consumers may find cute shoes for their big feet at Payless or Nine West. Most brick and mortar shoe stores tend to carry up to a size 12, but their websites often carry larger sizes. How to Lace Skate Shoes With Two Laces

Lacing a pair of skate shoes, or any pair of shoes for that matter, with two laces will add complimentary or clashing colors to your shoes for a more unique look. While most adults and children should be able to perform the task, it is best to have someone else help if you experience problems or become confused. But don't worry, if that should happen, you can easily start again, or have your assistant get you back on track. Either way, you'll have fun mixing and matching colors for your new and old skating shoes.

Instructions

Reference the diagram provided as a guide. Using two different colored laces, one shorter than the other, feed one lace (see Purple lace in the diagram below) from the bottom of the eyelet. Pull up and out of the eyelet so the lace hangs over the visible part of the eyelet ring (upside). Continue for both sides of the shoes but only feeding the lace through one pair of eyelets (right and left side of the corresponding pair of eyelets).

Criss cross the lace and feed under the third set of corresponding eyelets. Allow the lace to emerge from under each eyelet and pull until taut.

Continue crisscrossing the same lace until you reach the last two eyelets at the top of the shoe. Pull to gather any slack in the lace.

Move on to the second lace. For this example, refer to the orange lace in the above diagram. Holding the lace in your hands, repeat the previous steps; this time feeding the lace through every other set of eyelets.

Pull both laces tightly and tie as normal. You will tie both laces in one bow to secure the shoes.

What Is the Difference Between Narrow & Medium Shoes?

Shoes normally come in a variety of lengths and standard widths. This is the case mostly for economic reasons. However, if you have either narrow or wide feet, you can find shoes that will accommodate your size.

Standard Width

The standard width of the shoe will be proportional to the shoe's size, and vary with manufacturers. Typically, the width of a shoe is increased in 1/16th-inch increments for each change in size.

Medium

Most shoes, unless otherwise stipulated, will be Medium, often labeled M or D.

Narrow

The width of narrow shoes will also be proportional to the shoe size. Typically, this measurement will be 1/16th inch less than that of Medium or standard shoes. Narrow shoes are most commonly indicated by the letters N, C or B.

Wide Shoes

Wide shoes are those that are roughly 1/16th inch wider than the Medium shoes.

Other Sizes

Other specialty sizes include "Slim" and "Extra Wide."
