Importance of Good Shoes

Importance of Good Shoes

It is important to wear good shoes, as the foot alone has more than 25 percent of the body's collected bone mass. If any of these bones are or they become misaligned, the body may be affected in numerous ways. Although feet problems are not always noticed immediately, other pains, including knee problems, hip pains, lower back problems, shoulder and neck tensions, headaches and stomachaches, could be symptoms of misaligned bones in the feet.

Bladder and Adrenal Glands

Wearing shoes that do not support the muscles in the feet can lead to bladder problems. This is because the muscles that support the shape and function of the feet are related to the adrenal glands and the bladder, according to an article by Dr. Robert Ciprian. Continuing to use shoes that do not support the feet muscles can lead to serious problems, and eventually deformation of the feet. Although reflexology has become a popular treatment choice for these muscles that are related to organs, glands and other internal body parts, it is highly suggested to simply get a pair of good shoes. The shoes should support the feet muscles and align the bones, so the bottom of the feet will be stimulated.

Meridian Points

Poorly structured shoes that offer little support to the feet can also interfere with the meridian points in the feet that are used for acupuncture and acupressure. When these points are blocked because of a misaligned bone, health problems pertaining to the spleen, liver, stomach, kidney, bladder and gallbladder may occur because of the relation between certain meridian points and the body's internal organs. According to Dr. Ciprian, feet health is often significant in the body's overall balance of the acupuncture energy system.

The feet have many nerve receptors that send important information to the central nervous system. If the foot has problems, then the nerves may often receive confusing information, causing mechanical problems in the body. According to Dr. Ciprian, walking properly is a fine balance between the foot's nerve communication and the overall nervous system. Muscles are turned on and off via nerves, which allows for walking. If a muscle is not turning on when it is supposed to, then a muscle on the other side of the body will become too tight because the balance is upset. Similarly, when it becomes too tight, it pulls the bones out of alignment and causes problems.

Women's Shoes

A study published in the New York Times reveals that women would rather wear high heels and be in pain than wear average support shoes, such as hard-soled or rubber-soled shoes. High heels are considered of higher risk for hind foot, ankle pains and Achilles' tendon pain. Based on the study, it is recommended that women do not buy shoes simply because they are cute, but also because of the size and width of the shoe.

Finding the Right Shoe

When buying shoes that support the bones and feet, it is helpful to know several things. Understanding how feet are in alignment and if the knees are in corresponding alignment is very important, according to Good Health. Knowing how the feet generally work and where one personally falls on the spectrum can also be beneficial when shoe shopping. An article published in the Daily Herald suggests that a person should not be afraid to get expert advice. Try on both shoes, take a walk and test the shoe to see if it fits and works.
