How to Buy Clogging Shoes

Clogging is a dance style performed using clogging shoes to strike the toe, heel or both to create percussive music. In the US, clogging became popular in the 1920s. Today cloggers commonly compete against one another in competitions. To perform well in clogging, cloggers must have clogging shoes that both suit the dance style and look good on the dancer's feet.

Instructions

Determine what type of clogging shoe would be most beneficial to your dancing. If you have a clogging teacher, asking him or her is a great place to start. Dance teachers are normally quite knowledgeable about dance shoes and can give you good advice.

Consider split-sole clogging shoes with a leather stacked heel. Clogging competition teams commonly use this style of clogging shoe. A traditional single tap clogging shoe is another popular choice for cloggers. Made with a single tap plate attached to the toe and heel of the shoe, a single tap clogging shoe creates a sound when the shoe hits the floor and when it hits the second tap.

Learn your clogging shoe size to ensure your shoes fit properly. Visiting a dance shoe store gives you the best opportunity to get correctly fitted shoes. At most dance shoe stores, your feet will be measured by a professional and multiple clogging shoes in that size will be available for you to try on.

Leather, the skin of mammals, reptiles or large birds, is a pliable, durable material that serves a wide range of applications from heavy-duty upholstery to butter-soft pants. Leather can also be treated in a variety of ways to achieve various finishes. On opposite ends of the spectrum of leather looks are patent leather and nubuck.

Nubuck leather is untreated and has a slight nap.

To make leather, workers separate the hair and fat from the hide of an animal, preserve and tan the leather using various chemicals and apply other chemicals to create a variety of finishes, from soft and fuzzy to strong and flexible to hard and shiny.

Patent leather was developed in Europe in the 1700s and was commercially available starting in 1822. The process to create patent leather involves adding a strong lacquer as a final finishing step. Patent leather is hard, shiny and waterproof, but vulnerable to scratches and scuffs.

Nubuck leather involves using the soft inner side of the hide, and brushing it to a soft, slightly nappy finish, smoother than suede. Nubuck leather is strong, but because it is not treated with a final finishing chemical, it is prone to soiling and staining, and requires special products to keep it clean and maintain the brushed finish.

How Does a Woman Wear High Heels All Day?

High heels can certainly hurt, especially for women who are not accustomed to wearing them. Heels that are very high can make feet ache and legs hurt. The effects can even reverberate into the back, causing a variety of aches and pains. Over time, wearing high heels can cause lasting problems in the feet and back.

How do women deal with this? Many women simply build up immunity to the pain caused by high heels. They wear these types of shoes so often that soon it becomes a somewhat natural stance to wear high heels. In fact, some women start to prefer high heels over flats because the heels no longer cause pain, and the women like the way the heels make them look and feel. Some of these women have calluses that develop on their feet and toes that actually make it easier to wear heels without pain.

In most instances, the higher the quality of shoe, the better the design will be. Some heeled shoes may be more comfortable if well-made. This is certainly not to say that buying an expensive pair of high heels will guarantee comfort because there are plenty of very expensive high heels that aren't comfortable in the least. On the other hand, it is usually easier to find an expensive pair of high heel shoes that are comfortable. Some women who wear high heels all day are willing to spend more money for quality shoes because they want to be comfortable. No woman wants to teeter on shoes that may suddenly fall apart.

Not all women grow accustomed to the rigors of wearing high heels all day. For most women, breaks are important for the well-being of their feet. For example, women who have to wear heels as a part of a work uniform might take the shoes off when on break and give their feet a little break. In fact, some women because very adept at sneaking in little breaks for their feet throughout the day. Co-workers may not even realize that these women are curling and stretching their toes under their desk when nobody else is looking. Some women who wear high heels all day make it look effortless, yet they still put a lot of effort into making sure their feet get periodic breaks.

History of Gogo Boots

Gogo boots were the fashion rebellion of the mid-sixties. This was a revolutionary trend that changed the face of women's fashion. Boots became part of fashion, rather than just a necessity for inclement weather. Gogo boots introduced a progressive women's fashion trend that became incredibly popular, and never really went out of style.

The word gogo was short for "all the rage," when the boot took off in popularity in the early 1960s, and in 1965, the term gogo dancer came into vogue.

Gogo boots can really come in a wide variety of styles. The height of the boots can either be calf length, shin length or all the way up to the knee. They can come in a wide spectrum of styles from no zipper to side zipper, and from rounded toe to extremely pointed toe. The fabric can be anything from leather to vinyl, and the heel can be up to 4 inches, or non-existent. Gogo boots can be worn with skirts, dresses and pants alike.

Andr Courrges is said to be the first to feature the gogo boot in his collection in 1964. The boot was a part of his "Moon Girl" collection. The first gogo boot was actually clear plastic, and it was calf length.

While gogo boots are sometimes called kinky boots, they are not one and the same. Kinky boots usually go all the way up to the knee, and they are very pointed. The heel is also usually at least 3 inches high. These boots were very fashionable in England in the 70s.

The singer Nancy Sinatra wrote a song called "These Boots are Made for Walkin'" that brought attention to the style, and other designers like Yves St. Laurent also designed around the trend in the early 70s.
