For some, purchasing new pairs of shoes can hurt a wallet, especially if they worn and replaced often. Shoemakers and buyers alike agree that do-it-yourself rubber shoe repair can save you a lot of money when you need to extend the life of your shoes. Small materials and replacement parts can be purchased at an affordable price at your local shoe department or repair store.
Instructions
- 1
Replace the shoes sole heels if you wear them frequently. You can purchase replacement shoe heels for your shoe size at a shoe and stocking outlet. Replacing the shoes heel will prevent further damage to the heels construction, making it less likely to need overall shoe sole repair.
2Buy new rubber soles if they have become worn or damaged. You generally cannot repair rubber soles with any shoe repair material, but you can buy new ones that will replace the old ones and that would be best suitable for your style and fit.
3Choose rubber soles that are more comfortable and durable for your feet. Try wholesale or retail shoe shops as they have a wide variety of rubber shoe soles to choose from. The most common types of shoe soles are rubber, gristle, crepe, polyurethane and PVC.
4Mend the curved part of the rubber sole. Over time, the front rubber sole part of the shoe can actually uncurl if worn often. Fix this problem by investing in a heat-and-water resistant adhesive found at most local shoe department stores or shoe repair shops.
5Clean the sole area thoroughly with baking soda and water and air-dry the shoe for at least 24 hours. Apply heat-and-water resistant adhesive as directed on label. You may need to use shoe glue and clamps to adhere the sole together better. Allow to dry another 24 hours before use.
