How to Dye Your Shoes Purple

For whatever the reason, you may find that at one point in your life you need purple shoes. Finding the exact shade of purple you want to match your dress or to make your shoes look punk rock may be harder than you think. Rather than searching all around town for the perfect purple shoes, dye your own. Dyeing your shoes purple is a fairly easy process, albeit a time-consuming one. Keep in mind that it is easier to dye lighter color shoes than darker ones.

Instructions

Clean the shoes that you want to dye. If they are brand new then just rub them down with a dry wash cloth. If they have been worn before, wash them in your washing machine if possible. When you start the dyeing process, you want your shoes to be as clean as possible.

Heat your water and add it to your bucket. You want your water to be hot, but not scalding. Each fabric dye will have its own instructions as to how much hot water to use.

Add the purple fabric dye to your bucket of hot water. Mix well with your spoon.

Rinse the dye from your spoon (you can use the kitchen sink or an outdoor water house) and insert the head of the spoon into your shoe.

Lower the shoe into the purple dye and repeat with the second shoe. Give the dye a stir every 10 minutes for 30 minutes.

Put on your gloves and take the shoes out of the dye.

Run the shoes under water until the water comes out clear. If your shoes are too light, put them back into the dye and repeat the process again.

Lay the shoes (sole down) onto your towel and allow them to dry for 24 hours.
